Nigeria: WTO Holds Confab On Sustainable Tourism

Lagos — Nigeria will join the rest of the world in supporting World Tourism Organisation's STEP (Sustainable Tourism Eliminating Poverty) Initiative. STEP Foundation is aimed at eradicating poverty.

The international conference on sustainable tourism with particular reference to poverty alleviation will take place in Seoul, Republic of Korea from May 24 to 29, 2005. The Republic Korea and WTO had signed in Seoul an agreement on establishment of the Headquarters of STEP Foundation to enable the institution to begin its activities in the near future.

In fact, the agreement was signed by Korea's Minister of Culture and Tourism, Chung Dong-chea and WTO Secretary General Francisco Frangialli last September during the celebration of World Tourism Day in the Republic of Korea.

Frangialli had urged the international community to follow the example set by Republic of Korea in supporting the " important institution".

Minister of Culture and Tourism, Ambassador Franklin Ogbuewu who is also the Chairman of STEP Foundation is expected to lead a Nigerian delegation South Korea for the conference
