Liberia: Fighters Set Conditions to Lift Gutherie Siege

Some 1,000 former fighters of the disbanded Liberia United for Reconciliation and Democracy (LURD) who are besieging the Gutherie Rubber Plantation Company in western Liberia have set out conditions for leaving the area.

The second largest rubber industry, one of the main strongholds of the former rebel Liberia United for Reconciliation and Democracy (LURD), continues to be under siege by hundreds of armed fighters ever since the disarmament of Liberia's armed militias was reportedly closed by the United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL) last October under a peace deal designed to end Liberia's 10-year civil war.
