Rivonia — Zambia's intention to charge a 10% royalty on all mining activities in
the country has foreign miners up in arms.
On the face of it, Zambia appears to be committed to developing its
economy through tourism, agriculture and mining. However, the Levy Mwanawasa
administration appears to be suffering from policy indecision, following
recent pronouncements that all foreign firms undertaking mining activities
in the country will from the end of the year be expected to remit 10% of
their total profits to the government.
