Nairobi — More than two months after the election of President Abdullahi Yusuf Ahmed, Somalia is still experiencing sporadic violence instigated either by clans, faction militias or politically sponsored armed groups.
Continued insecurity is closely associated with the emergence of two competing factions in the Somali parliament and Cabinet. President Ahmed and Prime Minister Ali Mohammed Ghedi are facing stiff challenge from a war-hardened, Mogadishu-based group. The two leaders plan to pacify the country through a peace enforcing force deployed by African and Arab countries, but the idea has been rejected by the dissidents, who prefer their armed militias to do the job.
