Abuja — President Olusegun Obasanjo arrived Jamaica on 2 August to begin a two-day state visit to the Caribbean country made popular by a rich musical tradition and proud identification with the African heritage by its world-famous denizens.
President Obasanjo flew directly into the Sagster International Airport in Montego Bay and was received on arrival by Jamaica's Prime Minister, Hon James Patterson and the Mayor of Montego-Bay, Mr Noel Donaldson.
President Obasanjo held a private meeting with Prime Minister Patterson followed by informal talks at the Half Moon Hotel between Nigerian and Jamaican delegations.
A reception was later held at the same venue for the President and his entourage.
Before leaving Trinidad and Tobago on Tuesday, President Obasanjo and Prime Minister Patrick Manning had signed a Bilateral Air Services Agreement (BASA) between Nigeria and Trinidad and Tobago.
With the agreement, both countries can initiate direct flights from each of their bases.
President Obasanjo also met with the Prime Minister of Antigua and Bermuda during a diplomatic shuttle to St. Johns on Tuesday.
