Teams of volunteers will be washing oiled penguins over the next few days, following a mystery spill off the southern Cape coast that has so far affected almost 300 birds.
By yesterday afternoon, 281 oiled penguins were admitted to the Southern African Foundation for the Conservation of Coastal Birds (Sanccob). They came from Dyer Island, Stony Point, De Hoop nature reserve and Boulders Beach, with more expected to arrive today.
The source of the oil spill has yet to be identified.
