Lagos — Lagos state government is to provide necessary backing for the use of herbs in curing some ailments as an alternative to the orthodox medicine.
Governor Bola Tinubu disclosed this while declaring open a four-week traditional medicines exhibition at the State Council of Arts and Culture ground, Ikeja.
Governor Tinubu, who was represented by the state chairman of the Board of Traditional Medicines, Mr. Bunmi Omosehindemi, however, advised traditional medical practitioners at the fair to always comply with the National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) instructions concerning the display of their products.
He warned them to desist from making unsubstantiated claims of healing all ailments, advising them to package their products well in a hygenic environment.
In addition, he warned the exhibitors not to advertise either in the print or electronic media the cure of certain ailments like hernia, appendicities and psychiatric/mental disorder at the fair.
