Murang'a — The Church in Kenya joins the Catholic Diocese of Murang'a in mourning the death late Fr Samuel Kariuki Kihia on Monday, September 12, 2005. He was 50.
There will be two vigil Masses on September 15, 2005, both at 5:00 pm: one at his last station of appointment, Ruchu Catholic Church, and the other at Kiangunyi Catholic Church.
The Requiem Mass will be celebrated at the Murang'a Sacred Heart Cathedral on Friday, September 16, 2005, at 11:00 am, followed by funeral at the Diocesan Cemetery next to the Cathedral Church.
Fr Samuel Kariuki Kihia was son to the late Peter Kihia and Catherine Wanjiru of Kiangunyi, Kangema, Murang'a. He was brother to Isaac Chege, Simon Maina and Francis Njugi and the late Joseph Kamau.
Born in 1955, at Kiangunyi, he was ordained priest on December 18, 1982 at Consolata Cathedral, Nyeri.
Since his ordination, he had served in various appointment, including the Sacred Heart Parish (1983), Mariira Parish (1983-1984) and St Paul's Minor Seminary in Nyeri (1985-1988). He also served at Kianyaga Parish (1988), Sabasaba Parish (1988-1990), Kerugoya Parish (1990-1993, the Sacred Heart Cathedral Cathedral Parish (1994), Christ the King Major Seminary, Nyeri, (1995-2000), St Matthias Mulumba Seminary, Tindinyo (2001-2002).
His last appointment was at Ruchu Parish, August 2002-September 2005.
May God rest his soul in eternal peace, and give strength and consolation to his immediate and ecclesiastical family.
