The National Patriotic Party has formally pronounced its acceptance of the results of the Elections of 11 October 2005 as announced by the National Elections Commission. The party in a statement issued yesterday commended and congratulated the international community -UN, EU, AU, ECOWAS and Government of the United States of America National Elections Commission, its staff, workers, all National and International Observers, Participating Political Parties and individuals - for the professional and mature conduct of the elections.
"The National Patriotic Party extends sincere thanks to its many supporters and voters, who, by their support, have established that the platform and programs of the NPP have relevance to the people of this great nation," the statement by the Standard-bearer Roland Massaquoi indicated.
The NPP said, "Having conducted extensive consultations, we wish to advance the following recommendations to the two lead parties and to the many supporters of peace throughout this country, to include political, social and religious institutions." According to the former ruling party, the preliminary elections results "are a clear indication that the voters of this country anxiously desire a power sharing government rather than dominance by any one party or philosophy."
"In this vein, the NPP strongly admonishes the two leading parties to immediately begin serious negotiations toward the formation of an alliance between themselves aimed at the creation of a power sharing government," the statement said.
The party said this achievement would greatly diminish the fears and tensions inherent in an inexperienced electorate about the fate and future of the loser in the hands of the winner.
The NPP further suggested that the statistics implore all potential leaders to preempt the risk of marginalizing segments of our society by the declaration of winner and losers.
"We should all work towards a win-win situation for Liberia and Liberians. We appeal to the leadership of all political parties, civic and religious organizations and Liberians in the Diaspora to encourage participation in the formation of power sharing government." The party said.
The NPP suggested that it is imperative in the interest of peace and unity that such an agreement be attained prior to any run-off elections.
Meanwhile, the National Patriotic Party (NPP) said it has met with the two leading parties and has reiterated its platforms, programs and the interest of the NPP and will continue aggressive consultations with all the parties thru an appointed seven-man committee.
"To this end, we call on all those individuals and partisans who voted in acceptance and support of the NPP platform, that should a second round of voting be necessary, they should go out en mass and vote for the candidate and party that best manifest the platform of the NPP," the statement said.
