Ethiopia: Ass'n Urges Winning Party in Addis to Respect Residents' Vote

Addis Ababa — The Addis Ababa Women's Association has urged the winning political party in the metropolis to take-over the administration of the city by respecting the vote of the residents.

Opening Associations 3rd Regular Conference yesterday, Chairperson Tigu Wolde-Senbet said that both the ruling and opposition parties ought to narrow their differences and enable destitute women take part in development activities.

She further said the association was ready to work jointly with the party in the battle against poverty and backwardness.

"The conference is aimed at extricating destitute women from the quagmire of poverty that they are immersed in because of various social, political and economic problems. At the conference, women would once again reaffirm their commitment to reduce and ultimately eradicate poverty in line with the Millennium Development Goals," she added.

She also indicated that the association has been assisting destitute women in the metropolis, among others, get credit and saving as well as family planning services.

According to her, the association is jointly working with governmental and non-governmental organizations to realize its vision of ensuring the participation of women in the political and socio-economic activities their equality and rights respected.
