Nigeria: 2003 Polls: Appeal Court Absolves Obasanjo of Fraud

Abuja — The Court of Appeal yesterday in Abuja ruled that President Olusegun Obasanjo cannot be held accountable for the electoral malpractices noticed in the 2003 general elections, rather Nigerians should blame the situation on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Delivering judgment in the presidential election case filed by the presidential candidate of the Movement for Democracy and Justice (MDJ), Alhaji M. D. Yusuf, Justice Isa Ayo Salami said "I am not surprised INEC arrogated to itself in Paragraph 7 of Exhibit 2 that it had power to deploy military and police to the polling stations since anything is possible by this INEC".
