Cameroon: SCNC Youth League Creates Radio Station

An announcement that a radio station has been created to broadcast Pro-Southern Cameroons information has created panic within the Administration of the Northwest.A press release issued by Peter Tieh Ndeh, Secretary General in the Northwest Governor's office over the weekend, warns the population of the Province and calls for vigilance in the event of a broadcast promised in a press release issued by the Southern Cameroons National Council Youth League that has allegedly set up the clandestine radio.

The release, a copy of which The Post procured, states: "There comes a time in the history of an oppressed people, when they have to stand up and speak out. For close to half a century that right has been denied us. We can no longer afford to remain silent".

It proceeds to announce that on Sunday, October 30, from 7pm to 8 pm, Southern Cameroonians and the rest of the world, are invited to tune in to "Radio Free Southern Cameroons, RFSC", broadcasting from the Southern Cameroons capital of Buea, on the 25 meter band short wave.

The announcement also states that the broadcasts would be carried out on the same time and station, every Sunday and that web broadcasts could be viewed at the national web page www.fdrsouthercameroons.info.

"History reminds us that power concedes nothing without demand.

We hereby appeal to the alien regime that currently occupies our fatherland, to heed to the voice of reason and pull out peaceably", the release warns, adding that 44 years of experience have proven that culturally, linguistically and socially, Southern Cameroons and La Republique du Cameroon are two very different people.

" We have absolutely nothing in common. In the interest of comity therefore, it behoves that each of the nation states pursues its own destiny," further states the release

"We are embarking here on a course of no return. Freedom is that one human value that is non-negotiable. It can be delayed, but not denied.

It continues with an assurance that Southern Cameroonians want to avoid another Rwanda. We do not welcome the replay of another Liberia on our motherland. But if that is the alternative La Republique begs for, we will stop at nothing to reclaim our natural rights. We invite the international community not to forget the lesson of recent history."

Contacted by phone to comment on the release, Hitler Mbinglo, SCNC Northern Zone Chairman said he just read it like any other person.

Commenting on the Northwest Secretary General's release, Mbinglo said the scribe rather helped to publicise the information than prevented people from listening to it if or when it comes.

The SCYL release has created much euphoria in Bamenda, especially among SCNC activists. Although it carried no name, the general impression is that the SCYL Chairman, Ebenezer Akwanga, judging from the style, issued it. by press time the population of Bamenda was anxiously awaiting the broadcast
