Freetown — The people of Sierra Leone are expected to soon join the most recent and fastest Internet service that has promised to link the entire country and the world at a high speed and affordable cost.
The company, "Cyber Reach" is a new Internet Service Provider (ISP) that is expected to commence operations at the end of November with a nationwide coverage in six months.
Cyber Reach is reported to have brought in the most modern of all technologies with a service that does not need any dial-up of telephone lines nor any cable service or any satellite (VSAT) link.
Sati Choithram, Cyber Reach's proprietress said, "the service would be the cheapest and first of its kind to be offered in the country," and continued, " it is a very simple technology wherein there is a modem of 4 inches long and 2 inches wide that you can carry anywhere you wish." She explained that one only needs to plug the modem into a computer and then one is on the net.
Choithram disclosed that the manufacturers have patented this unique technology wherein there is no need for special software or any start up service and that the product is made in USA.
"This service shall initially be within greater Freetown and will be available to the provinces within three to six months," she states and adds that the modem will cost US$350 and a monthly subscription of US$120.
Choithram noted that they would be providing a minimum of 1MB speed and the service will be available 24 hours.
"With the Ripwave modem, there is no need to send technicians to climb the roof, no computers to be opened up and no installation required. The unit connects to the computer via USB or Ethernet port. The Ripewave modem is the broadband access to your residential, SOHO and SME (small/medium enterprise) customers," she stated.
