Addis Ababa — The Ministry of Information said the resolution adopted by the House of Peoples' Representatives to set up an independent inquiry commission to investigate the street violence and relevant issues is a continuation of efforts underway to ensure the rule of law.
In a weekly statement it issued yesterday, the ministry said, in as much as the democratic system of our country has created a favourable ground to address any difference of opinion through peaceful means, it has also a democratic system that enables to ensure the rule of law.
The statement said it must be recalled that the government has facilitated various mechanisms to address election related complaints in a legal and peaceful manner.
Moreover, the statement said, the government had also adopted a modality to investigate the various election related complaints submitted by the opposition political parties through neutral bodies.
The ministry said the successive violence instigated by the leadership of the organization under the umbrella of CUD following the third national elections has impeded the rapid pace of building sustainable economic development and a democratic system.
The ministry said the resolution to establish an independent commission that probes into the violence incited by forces of hardliners following the third national elections is a commendable measure to ensure the rule of law.
