The Assemblies of God Charities Faith Consortium, a United States-based agency interested in tackling the problems of human trafficking, has begun a two-week training of trainers workshop on Tuesday, November 22 in Monrovia on the activities of human trafficking in and out of Liberia.

According to the County Director William Davies Jr.

more then one hundred and twenty persons from five communities within the Monrovia area including West Point, New Kru Town, Clara Town, Congo Town and Chicken Factory community will benefit from the workshop.

He said those targeted for the workshop are local government authorities, tribal leaders, law enforcement officers, religious leaders, youth groups, women groups, students and teachers.

Mr. Davies said the workshop is intended to educate these people about human trafficking and how to combat this ugly act in their communities. He said, because of the lack of information on human trafficking, many Liberians are now victims of this unwholesome act.

He mentioned that there is global fight against human trafficking and as such Liberia is no exception, adding that many Liberians are being trafficked globally in prostitution, as child soldiers, and in domestic servitude.

Mr. Davies stressed that his organization is committed to the fight against human trafficking in the country and will work with other organizations in the fight against this modern day slavery.

The A/G Charities Faith Consortium boss is asking the NTGL Chairman Gyude Bryant to officially appoint the chairman and members of the Anti-human trafficking Task Force. The Anti-human trafficking bill was passed by the NTLA and signed by the chairman and printed into hand bills in July of this year.

The A/G Charities Faith Consortium started its work in Liberia since September 2004 by creating public awareness on human trafficking through the conduct of series of educational round table discussions.

Mr. Davies is therefore urging the in coming government to join the fight against human trafficking.
