Kampala — THE New Vision and the Alliance of Mayors and Municipal Leaders on HIV/AIDS in Africa (AMICAALL) have donated items to war-affected communities in the north, reports Mariam Nalunkuuma.
The items, including clothes, foodstuff, beddings, shoes, scholastic material and domestic utensils, will today be handed over to the beneficiaries at Kitgum Boma ground to coincide with the World Aids Day.
The New Vision deputy circulation manager, Dan Kawuma, handed over the items to AMICAALL co-ordinator Angelina wapakabulo at The New Vision offices on Tuesday.
Wapakabulo said, "In recognition of the increased HIV prevalence in the north, the local and international HIV/AIDS partners under AMICAALL have organised a joint 2005 World Aids campaign in the region."
She said the situation in the north had disrupted HIV/AIDS prevention efforts and resulted in the increased prevalence, estimated at between 10-16%.
The New Vision was in partnership with UNDP, Uganda Red Cross Society, People Living with HIV/AIDS forum, AIDS Information Centre and the Uganda Network of aids Service Organisation.
