THE $5.2 trillion allocated to the country's ailing health sector
in the 2006 National Budget announced last week is just not enough to
improve deteriorating conditions in the sector, experts have said.
For the first time in a number of years, the health sector got
priority over other key ministries such as defence, claiming at least
12 percent of the total budget expenditure. The defence ministry has
traditionally received top priority in budget allocations. However,
critics maintain that more could be done for the country's ailing
health sector.
