Kampala — DEMOCRATIC Party (DP) presidential candidate John Ssebaana Kizito has said he is the only party flag bearer in the presidential race.

He asked DP faithful to ignore any candidate who claims to be standing on the DP ticket.

"This should be made clear to all our supporters that DP has only one presidential candidate, who is me. There is no other presidential candidate for DP even if there are others who have been nominated and use the party colours," Ssebaana said.

Former Kampala mayor Hajji Nasser Sebaggala who is also a DP member was duly nominated to stand as an independent. He has pinned up posters in DP colours.

Addressing a rally at the Constitutional Square on Thursday evening after his nomination, Ssebaana urged Ugandans to vote for him, saying DP had the best manifesto under the slogan 'From peace to prosperity'.

He said experienced people prepared the manifesto. Earlier, some DP members who addressed the rally had also criticised Sebaggala for standing as an independent. They referred to him as an undisciplined child'.

Ssebaana said DP has a plan to create wealth for all, unlike the Movement where wealth is for a select few.

Wooing people to vote for Ssebaana, Kampala City Council secretary for education Florence Nkalubo threw the crowd into cheers when she said Ssebaana was a Godsend.

"I want to assure you that Ssebaana is God-sent. Some of us who have worked with him have witnessed his wisdom", Nkalubo said.
