Uganda: Cp Chief Slams Museveni

Kampala — CONSERVATIVE Party (CP) president general John Ken Lukyamuzi has slammed President Yoweri Museveni's manifesto slogan, calling it a campaign gimmick.

"Museveni's plea for prosperity for all in his manifesto is misconceived and will never be a reality for as long as he is in power," Lukyamuzi said.

Lukyamuzi was addressing the press yesterday at Speke Hotel in Kampala.

He said, "Prosperity for all can only be realised when the regions constitutionally share powers on a federal basis so as to guarantee development for all regions."

Museveni, who is also the National Resistance Movement (NRM) presidential candidate, launched his manifesto at Kololo airstrip under the slogan 'Prosperity for All'.

Lukyamuzi asked the Baganda to ignore Museveni in the coming elections, saying decentralisation and the regional tier his government was advocating hardly addressed the federalism question.

He said Museveni while addressing Mambo Bado, a CBS FM radio programme, insisted on an elected Katikkiro.

But Lukyamuzi said, "Museveni is free to insist on that but he has no convincing reason for decampaigning a Katikkiro who is appointed by the Kabaka."
