The Minister of Police Affairs, Alaowei Borderick Bozimo, has said that the federal government has awarded contracts for the installation of Close Circuit Television (CCTV) in Abuja and Lagos to enhance crime detection.
The minister made the revelation recently while inaugurating the committee on police reform in Abuja, he also said, that government has procured more arms and ammunition, Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs), helicopters and speed boats to help the police in performing their duties effectively.
Alaowei Bozimo, added that the force is being positioned to combat the various forms of crimes in the nation.
He also added that since the approval of the five years development plan, the federal government had embarked on massive overhaul of the force from its position of weakness to enable it met the challenges of the nascent democracy.
The committee headed by DIG Dan Madami (rtd), comprised of eleven members with Mr. Solomon Arase (DCP), as secretary.
The terms of reference for the committee, includes the review and recommendation of measures on the reorganisation, administration, operation and control of the Nigeria police force with a view to enhancing efficiency in its operations and service delivery.
It is also to reappraise existing strategies and measures of crime prevention and control, including intelligence and investigative capabilities of the force and make recommendations towards improvement and to make any other recommendation for the improvement of the services of the Nigeria police force among others.
