Freetown — Posseh Akinola of Christian Farmers Cassava Initiative (CFCI) Saturday announced that her organization would start exporting cassava to Nigeria.
Akinola who was speaking at a press conference said her organization, which is a business organization, has sensitized thousands of farmers' nationwide that surplus cassava can be made into chips and exported to Nigeria.
" You can have more than a thousand products out of cassava including fuel which is presently making life for people in Nigeria easy," she said and added that they are working with other financial organizations.
She maintained that their aim is to earn money, as well as to feed the people of Sierra Leone.
Akinola said their program is open to all religious denominations and they are complementing President Kabbah's food security dream ahead of 2007.
International cassava commercialization expert, Boma Anga who doubles as CFCI's Consultant said his organization's dream would not be achieved without the partnership of the farmers.
"Our aim is to expand the cassava production in Sierra Leone by 2007 we want Sierra Leone to be one of the most competitive producers of cassava in the world," he assured and added that CFCI is here to stay.
Anga said the short, mid and long-term plans for food security would be achieved in the country with variety of food to feed.
