Cameroon: Ebot Ebot Enaw : "We Need A Clear Picture of ICTs in Cameroon"

interview

Ebot Ebot Enaw, the new General Manager of the National Agency for Information and Communication Technology.

How do you intend to improve the Information and Communication Technology sector ?

We intend to start by figuring out the situation of Information and Communication Technology in the country. Who are the actors involved in the domain? What aspects of ICTs are they involved in? What platform can be put in place to regulate the sector? Once we are through with the information gathering phase, we would proceed and put in place a forward-looking, comprehensive, development-oriented and all inclusive national strategy on information and communication technology. This will give us a clear picture on how we are going to use ICTs to improve the standard of living of Cameroonians as prescribed by the Head of State.

Do you have the means to realise these lofty projects?

The means will be available. The State is taking care of that and that shouldn't be a problem.

What are some of the missions assigned to ANTIC?

ANTIC refers to the National Agency for Information and Communication Technology. Our role basically, is to promote and follow up the actions of the government in the area of information and communication technology. In that way, we are going to encourage all Cameroonians to get actively involve in information and communication technology. We are going to put in place all sorts of platform, such as electronic government. We are going to encourage the setting up of local area network in the ministries and encourage their getting linked up in a wide area network in an effort to facilitate the transfer of information, thereby bringing about E-government which will go a long way to facilitate information exchange.

How soon are you taking off with these projects?

We are taking off immediately. We may not address all the aspects immediately but we are coming out with a road map which will enable us to attain our goals.
