Mbale — The army and Arrow Boys militia have killed 10 more Karimojong warriors in the latest assault bringing the death toll at 32 in just one week in the districts of Kaabong and Katakwi.
According to the UPDF's 3rd Infantry Division Spokesperson, Lt Henry Obbo, 10 were shot dead after a raid on February 19 while 22 of the warriors were killed in Kaabong on February 12.
"In the latest incident, which occurred at Ongoriapus in Ngariam Sub-county, they had raided the Pien community and taken 58 head of cattle and three donkeys. But all these were recovered," Obbo said.
He said although the warriors, totalling between 50 and 100, outnumbered both the army and Arrow militia, who were less than 40, they managed to fight the warriors without any casualties, in two battles that lasted between 10am and 1pm.
The army recovered 15 guns from both incidents.
Obbo urged Karimojong elders to advise the youth against indulging in cattle rustling because the army is now equipped to deal with them.
Said Obbo: "In addition to the sophisticated guns on ground, we also have a modern chopper that does not miss targets stationed at Soroti. It has been in action and they know how lethal it is." He disclosed that attacks on Teso had stopped but the Karimojong are instead carrying out raids amongst themselves.
