Lusaka — IT was a special gospel music extravaganza as notable local gospel music artistes gathered at Lusaka's Mulungushi International Conference Centre to support fellow gospel music singer Joyce Mwanza in fundraising for her next album.
Among the prominent artistes that featured for the night were Nathan Nyirenda of the Mwe makufi fame, all-time gospel great Matthew Ngosa, youthful groups like B3 and Coming Back, the host Joyce Mwanza and various praise teams from several congregations around the city. Joyce, whose last release Uluse (Grace) particularly the album's title track was Radio Christian Voice's 2005 song of the year, had a sizeable crowd to give a hand as she raised funds for her next project.
Joyce managed to enchant a number of revelers that converged at the joint especially with her usual immaculate stage movements. If what was exhibited last Friday by the artiste is something to go by, then Joyce's fans are guaranteed of an inspiring project again.
Revellers were further treated to some brilliant performances by preceding artistes who included Nathan Nyirenda whose brilliant heartfelt rendition of Mwe Makufi stole the hearts of many.
As always, Nathan emotionally churned out his tracks in an extraordinary and touching manner as they carefully listened and watched him caress his well-liked musical instrument ' the keyboard'.
The show reached its climax when he sang the famous Mwe Makufu. Impressively, Nathan added a verse that embraced the classic hymn "Give me oil in my lamp".
Although, in Nathan's version, the verse became "Give my oil in my land, keep it burning", while its closing catchphrase of the Zambian national anthem must have stirred the zeal of patriotism of all those in the auditorium.
Interestingly, due to persistent demands from the crowd Nathan was compelled to perform beyond the stipulated duration. It was truly another memorable night for Christians at this 'Together As One' concert.
