Akure — THE Odua Peoples Congress, OPC, yesterday in Ondo State, denied disrupting the million- man march rally organised last weekend to garner support for the third term ambition of President Olusegun Obasanjo in Akure, the state capital.
Fear of an attack by militant groups in the state aborted the rally which was expected to have in attendance governors from the South Western part of the country and notable politicians. Deputy coordinator of the congress, Mr. Victor Adegboyega and the state Secretary, Mr. Olu Alonge who stormed the Vanguard office in Akure said that they knew nothing about the planned rally that flopped and that the congress was being blackmailed by politicians.
The Movement for National Accommodation and Consensus for Continuity organised the rally and it was expected to take place at the Akure City hall but it flopped following alleged threat by the congress. According to leaders of the congress "OPC is never a party to disrupting anybody's ambition as it is against the aims and objectives of the OPC. "Let us get it that the OPC is the coming together of the Yoruba to form a formidable force to wage a sustained war against all unfair treatment of the Yoruba.
The congress added that "It should be clear to doubting Thomases and the political misfits that there is no way the OPC can be against President Olusegun Obasanjo in whatever way he chooses.
"It is not the business of OPC to antagonise President Obasanjo even if he wants to stay in power till thy kingdom come." "It is surprising that our leaders, Dr. Fredrick Faseun and Chief Gani Adams, have been in detention for the past six months yet these cowards that are now using OPC's name to score marks could not do anything on how to get them out of the gulag."
