Nairobi — The 2-0 bashing of Tusker by Egypt's Al Ahly in the CAF Champions League on Saturday overshadowed weekend Premier League action.
Mathare United had an emphatic 4-1 win over World Hope on Sunday as Sony Sugar staggered back to the top of the table with a 2-0 win over Sher Agencies in Awendo.
Thika United joined them at the top on Sunday when Juma Abdalla's boys thrashed Mathare Youth 4-0, scorers being Paul Anunda (two), Moses Irungu and Paul Onyango. However, they have inferior goal aggregate.
Coast Stars piled more relegation worries on AFC Leopards with a 3-0 win in Mombasa to drag themselves from the relegation zone. Kangemi United's tour of Western Kenya started and ended disastrously with a 1-0 loss to Chemelil Sugar, a day after Mumias Sugar had crushed them 3-0 at Mumias Complex.
Defending champions Ulinzi suffered a fourth loss and failed to gain ground on the leading pack when they fell 1-0 to gritty Agro Chemicals in Muhoroni. Ben Ayoyo's strike was enough to assure the victors of maximum points. At City Stadium, KCB and Securicor settled for a 1-1. Gor Mahia recovered from the 2-0 beating at the hands of Kangemi a week ago to humble Red Berets by the same margin at Nakuru's Afraha Stadium on Sunday.
Telkom were held to a barren draw by Sher Agencies at home, a sign that they are facing relegation.
With Tusker's Ambani and Midenyo inactive locally, and Ulinzi's Anthony Nderitu's failure to score against Agro Chemicals, Mumias' Mark Sirengo took the top scorers mantle with 10 goals. Sirengo scored two goals on Saturday against Kangemi United.
