Media executives at a one day conference of UNDP Small Arms Control Programme in Monrovia recently took into account the dangers that small arms and light weapons pose to society and drafted a resolution for the control of small arms.
The resolution recommends that there be established a network of journalists and form constructive anti-arms partnerships with national and regional organizations, UN Agencies and government; use their influence through columns and editorials to influence the enactment of laws such as the Fire Arms Traffic Control Act; Recruit correspondents in Monrovia and across the country to focus on the issue of Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW); and that economic and security implications of the proliferation of SALW be highlighted.
