CONFEDERATION of African Football, CAF, yesterday asked FA Chairman Ibrahim Galadima to clear the air on the two U-20 female teams and two venues being put together for Sunday's Under-20 Women's World Championship qualifier against Kenya. The letter to Galadima by CAF became necessary following the locking of horns between Fanny Amun and Ayo Omidiran over who has the right to set up teams for the qualifier.
Omidiran whose team is based in Ijebu Ode claimed that her team was the real one since the Sports Ministry was financing her camp. But Amun like a bolt out from the blues set up another camp in Abuja and queried Omidiran for acting beyond her powers and described her camp as illegal. The two camps with full players were being run with tax payers money. But Galadima made it clear to CAF that Omidiran's camp remains the authentic team for Nigeria and the venue for the match remains Ijebu-Ode Stadium which would be used to test-run for the National Sports Festival in Abeokuta.
"It appears that some people are bent on embarrassing Nigeria. This is the same Fanny Amun who claims to be obeying the voice of the Minister now working against his orders and the interest of the Nation. Omidiran has the backing of the FA and I have informed CAF", Galadima said.
Nigeria risked being walked over by the un-necessary power-tussle but Galadima said that he was happy that good reason has prevailed. "It's a great relief. We do not deserve to be a laughing stock in the eyes of outsiders". Sports Vanguard also learnt that the FA would come out with names for their national coaches as against the earlier ones named by Fanny Amun. Galadima insisted that Amun had no powers to appoint coaches or make changes in the national teams. "He is not the Secretary of the FA and has no such powers.
He remains a staff of the Ministry. CAF and FIFA are already aware of this and are awaiting the appointments of our new Secretary and other appointments for the national teams of Nigeria".
