Algiers — ZANACO'S quest for a group stage spot in the Confederations of Africa (CAF) Champions League continues this evening when they face Algerian side JS Kabylie in Algiers.
Carrying a slender 1-0 advantage, Zanaco face a strenuous task of being the first Zambian club to play in the current format of the CAF Champions League group stage.
Coach Fighton Simukonda understands the task ahead of him and does not want to rule out his team's chances.
"I am sure," was his answer in response to a question whether he thinks his team has a realistic chance of cruising past the Algerians. "We outplayed these guys in the first game. After creating four chances (in the first game), we missed them all."
Though refusing to disclose the exact strategy he will employ for the result to be in his favour, Simukonda will rely on hard working striker Ignatius Luipa and Winstone Kalengo to lead the attack.
Veteran winger Numba Mumamba and Kelvin Kaindu will be called upon to spearhead the left and right wings, respectively while enterprising but dimunitive Jack Chileshe will be tasked with the responsibility of marshalling the midfield.
At the back, Simukonda will count on international Kennedy Nketani and Evans Chisulo to shield George Kolala in goal. Despite losing the first leg, equally confident for qualification to the next round is JSK French coach Chay Jean-Yves.
"We have an overall idea of Zanaco. It's a very good team with good players," he said ahead of the game.
Jean-Yves declares his aim is to see his team win the continental club showpiece.
"It will be difficult for us but we are confident of a win - it's possible, it's possible," he said.
