The consignment worth over 70.000 Euro consists of large volume of bandages, special technical equipment, such as electrocardiographs, defibrillators, a spectrophotometer, an x-ray- machine and other special devices.

The Germany Ambassador to Ghana, Mr. Peter Linder who presented the consignment to the Defence Minister in Accra, noted that the donation will further improve the health system within the Armed Forces and Ghana as whole.

"I should like to add that the nature of the equipment is such that it can also contribute to the wellbeing of Ghanaian units on missions abroad as well as for the citizens in these unfriendly environments."

He announced that very soon 15 Medical Reception Centres and Medical stations throughout Ghana will be refurbished under Germany's bilateral programme, between 2005 and 2008.

As further cooperation between the two countries in the medical field, he sated that a German Medical Officer will be trained as a specialist for tropical diseases in collaboration with the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, (KNUST) in Kumasi, the University Teaching Hospital and district hospitals in the region, next year.

"This is supposed to be the start of a training program which will bring German Medical Military Personal regularly to Ghana."

He hoped the equipment would be beneficial for professional medical work within the Armed Forces and patients in need of treatment.
