19-year old Jennifer Kasemiire, an S6 leaver was on April 15, 2006 crowned the new beauty queen for Fort Portal. Toro Queen Mother Best Kemigisa who was the chief guest announced Jennifer Kasemiire as the winner at around 2 a.m.
By 6.p.m. revellers had already started flocking Gardens Restaurant, the venue and by 7:30 p.m. the place was crammed with revellers impatiently waiting to see Fort Portal's Nyarurungi (beauty queen).
The chairman-elect for Kampala Central who also come from from Bunyoro, Godfrey Nyakana, MTN' s Rita Okuthe, Angella Katatumba, Prince Rukiidi from the DR Congo were among the notable guests who graced the pageant.
The show began at exactly 8. p.m. The 10 contestants stormed the stage for the Indian creative dance. Then the catwalk followed as the judges awarded marks.
Kemigisa sent the crowd into laughter when she said that King Oyo, her son, was lucky to have very many beautiful girls who could even win the Miss World title if they got the chance. She said: " King Oyo is happy to have raised these good girls in his generation. He wishes you the best."
Evelyn Katutu Karuyonga, Miss Fort Portal 2005's duties ended when she handed over the crown to Kasemiire. Kasemiire won a 21-inch colour TV courtesy of WBS and this was handed over by the station's General Manager Kenneth Kazooba.
Monica Kahunde the 1st runner-up won herself a music system and a hamper of cosmetics from Kahangi Estate, 2nd runner-up Jean Tusiime won herself a newly connected mobile phone and a hamper of cosmetics.
The event was sponsored by The Red Pepper, WBS TV, Voice of Toro, Nile Breweries and PPZ Studio Fashions among others.
Buchaman, Jet and the 06 Crew entertained the crowd.
