Rwanda: Sector Seeks ICT Centre

Eastern Province — Administrators of Gakoni and Kiramuruzi sector in Gatsibo District want the government to set up an ICT centre at Gakoni Pyrotechnic School, to benefit both students and residents.

"This is a good programme that can benefit us all. It is in line with extending good governance to the residents," said Peter Claver Kabanda, the Coordinator of Gakoni Sector.

This was during a ceremony to close a training workshop for 900 secondary school teachers in ICT. The three-week training, held at Gakoni Pyrotechnic School, was attended by teachers from eighteen schools drawn from the four provinces.

They expressed the concern to Tharcise Musabyeyezu, the Secretary General in the Ministry of Education.

In response, Musabyeyezu said that their concern for an ICT centre was in line with the government's Vision 2020 of attaining development based on ICT.

He advised the trainees to utilise the skills gained and assist fellow teachers and students.

An ICT specialist, Innocent Twagirimana, who also conducted the training said that the programme is being well appreciated by the trainees.

The training is part of an ongoing programme to develop ICT countrywide especially in schools.
