Mamfe (Manyu) — The people of Manyu Division from all social and political strata converged at Mamfe last April 13 for the launching of the Manyu Participatory Development Fund (MPDF). The chief launcher, the Minister of Forestry and Wildlife, Egbe Achuo Hillman described the fund as " a promise, a challenge and a hope". The people immediate by responded as they laid the foundation of an effective development tool for Manyu Division with an on-the-spot donation of CFA 22 million.
Minister Egbe Achuo Hillman in his inaugural speech said MPDF will enable them train Manyu sons and daughters in vocational domains which facilitate employment, enable the culture of entrepreneurship take root in the Division, facilitate the economic empowerment of Manyu and attract financing from development partners. For these objectives to be attained, he called for the massive adherence to the idea of the development fund, broad- based participation, devotedness to transparency in management. Minister Egbe Achuo stated that, "the development fund is not an elitist idea".
Manyu Participatory Development Fund to be registered as a Common Initiative Group, according to Minister Egbe Achuo is structured to ensure effectiveness. Its foundation is the representative assembly of 100 delegates selected from the four Sub-divisions of Manyu Division, 14 national zones, three international zones and two Manyu-based organisations. The representative assembly is the supreme decision-making body of MPDF. Ten people will be elected from the representative assembly into the board of directors that will govern the fund and define its policies. The board shall recruit a management team to run the day-to-day activities of the fund while a task force will be recruited with specific skills whenever the need arises.
Besides the kick off to the fundraising of CFA 2 million Minister Egbe Achuo Hillman, also donated a computer and printer for work to start at the MPDF secretariat.
