Botswana: Debswana Breaks Record Again

Debswana Managing Director Blackie Marole last week revealed that the company has broken its production record yet again.

Presenting the company's annual report to the media in Gaborone Marole said Debswana had managed to do this within budget producing 31.9 million carats against a background of setbacks Orapa mine.

"We lost the main shovel early in the year and soon after, we lost an access road that was a critical part of the mine plan. The collapse of the road necessitated more than having to build another access road, the entire mine plan had to be changed", he said.

The Debswana boss attributed the achievement to teamwork and planning with the company.

He also said that the 12% devaluation of the also worked in favour of the company and enhanced what the strong result they already expected.

Marole further said the company's profit to revenue ration remains high adding that maintaining the production level is a big challenge.
