Uganda: Envoy Passes Out Peace Corps

Kampala — US ambassador Steven A. Browning on Thursday presided over the swearing-in of 33 peace corps volunteers at his residence.

A statement from the embassy said 15 of the new volunteers would be posted to serve Primary Teacher Colleges in central and western Uganda.

The rest will to serve in community-based and non-governmental organisations, focusing on health and HIV/AIDS.

The statement said Browning commended the volunteers for their commitment to service in the communities and he thanked the communities for the warm welcome that has traditionally been extended to Peace Corps volunteers.

Director of education Sam Onek welcomed the new volunteers into service on behalf of the Government.
