Addis Ababa — The 61-man team that came to Ethiopia under the coordination of the Association of Ethiopian Medical Professionals in North America has conducted the fifth round cardiac surgery at the Tikur Anbessa Hospital yesterday.
Member and coordinator of the medical team, Dr. Daniel Desta, told WIC that the team is performing the surgery by working for over 15 hours a day. So far the team has operated on five patients and all of them are currently in good health.
The team has imported a two million US dollar surgical equipment from the United States which will be given to the country after the end of the team's mission, Dr. Daniel said.
Meanwhile, in a joint statement given yesterday by members of the team, Medical Director of Tikur Anbessa Hospital and the hospital staff an agreement has been reached to extend the assistance of the association that used to be once or twice a year to be throughout the year.
Members of the team and faculty heads said on the occasion that the association will make continuous support in education, medical equipment and experience sharing.
To this end, the faculty has agreed to contact the relevant governmental bodies while the association agreed to further coordinate members.
