Eritrea: UN's Failure to Live Up to Its Responsibility Cannot Be Covered Up By Any Resolution

Asmara — In a 2-minute session on Wednesday 31 May 2006, on the Eritrea-Ethiopia conflict, the UN Security Council adopted Resolution 1681/2006 that vividly demonstrates more than ever before the acute crisis to which the United Nations mission and its fundamental principles regarding Eritrea and Ethiopia has been laid bare.

This resolution that deliberately accuses, as usual, both the law-abiding party and the lawless one, the Security Council not only decided to trim by about 30% the number of the UN peace keeping force in Eritrea and Ethiopia (UNMEE) and prolong its mission by 4 months but also " urges both parties to cooperate with the Boundary Commission."
