Assosa — Some 2,542 Sudanese refugees sheltered in the Sherkole and Bonga refugee camps have reportedly returned to their country.
Assosa Bureau Representative of the Refugees and Returnees Administration, Wijira Gamo, told WIC yesterday that 1,037 individuals from Sherkole and 1,505 from Bonga refugee camps returned to their homeland beginning last May.
The returnees were provided with blankets, bedsheets, bednets and various household utensils, he stated.
The task of assisting the refugees return to their country was, however, interrupted last month due to the rainy season that has disrupted transportation, Wijira added.
Transporting the returnees would resume as soon as the rivers get dry and the roads become open, the representative concluded.
