East Africa: No Import Duty On Energy Products - EAC Ministers

Kampala — The finance ministers of the three East African countries, Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania have reviewed the Customs Union Protocol to allow free importation of energy power products in the region.

The decision to take effect July 1 was made during a meeting that took place last week in Arusha-Tanzania. Speaking to The New Times at Parliament, the Ugandan finance, planning and economic development minister, Dr. Ezra Suruma, said that the trio decided to exempt all energy saving devices from taxation, in a move aimed at providing alternative solutions to the current power shortage in the regional countries.
