Rwanda: NEPAD, Rwanda Sign Memo

Kigali — The New Partnership for African Development (NEPAD) has signed a memorandum of cooperation with Rwanda Development Gateway (RDG) which will enable the two institutions exchange valuable information.

Speaking at the meeting during the signing of the memorandum of cooperation, the presidential advisor on NEPAD, Francis Gatare said that it was a pleasure for the country to have the two institutions signing a memorandum of cooperation.

"I was blessed to be among the initiators of Rwanda Development Gateway, and now I am counted under NEPAD. I am sure that the cooperation will help us (NEPAD) a lot as well as RDG." In the last cabinet retreat, members agreed that the partnership between different institutions in the country was essential and that there was need to create inter-dependent relations amongst private and government institutions," Gatare said.

He also highlighted some of the aims in the cooperation, saying that it is a fortune for NEPAD to have RDG as a close partner.

"They (RDG) will help us in accessing information that we may need for our work," Gatare disclosed.

The coordinator of African Gateways, and Manager of Rwanda Development Gateway, Jean Philbert Nsengimana, appreciated the cooperation, saying that RDG will work closely with NEPAD by supplying them with all available information and also supplying their activities in Rwanda online.

Canisus Karurangwa, the Vice Rector of the National University of Rwanda who signed the memorandum on behalf of RDG, said that the memorandum had opened a wider door to Rwanda in ICT Development, and that this had lead to the digital divide success.
