The school's authorities and the police are interrogating twenty-three students of Aggrey Memorial Zion Secondary School, in Cape Coast, as to why they attempted burning down the school.
The students attempted to set the school on fire last Saturday at about 11pm when the school authorities got wind of it and arrested those involved and gallons of liquid suspected to be petrol were retrieved from them.
The Chronicle's investigations on Monday revealed that the students were to write an internal promotional examination, following their abysmal performance over the past five school terms.
But the students perceived such an administrative decision as unfair and decided to register their protest by going on rampage with the view to raze the school.
When this reporter got to the school, the Senior Housemistress, Ms. Koomson, was making telephone calls asking parents of perpetrators to a meeting on campus on Tuesday.
The Headmaster, Mr. Appiah Dankwa, could not comment on the issue because the matter was under police investigation.
The school authority headed by Mr. Dankwa has come under intense pressure from old students, who are calling for the head of the headmaster.
