Africa: World Bank President Travels to Africa On the Eve of the G8 Summit

Washington, DC — World Bank President Paul Wolfowitz began today the first of two visits to Africa this month, before and after the G8 summit, where he will press world leaders to make good on the pledges they made last year to help Africa's poorest citizens.

"As I have stated before, Africa is our most important priority," said Mr. Wolfowitz. "This weekend, the leaders of the world's richest countries will gather in St. Petersburg, Russia for the G8 summit and I intend to bring a very clear message: we must deliver on the promises on aid, debt and trade made last year to this great continent."
