Kampala — Kenya Airways (KQ) last week unveiled a fresh website that features an online booking engine for its Ugandan clients.
The revamped website makes it easier for KQ customers to access all relevant information and make online bookings.
The online booking is a detailed page that takes one from their home country to different airports, destination, meals, expectations and possible documentation a traveler requires.
In replacing the old website with a totally new one, Kenya Airways country manager, Mr. Emmanuel Okware explained that the previous website did not yield much business.
"The new website will provide our customers in Uganda with an opportunity to have direct control of their travel plans and enjoy our warm and friendly services." said Okware
Robert Wakaba, the e-business Officer at Kenya Airways said that the new website was a truly e-commerce site.
"Passengers who make the online booking will be offered incentives," said Wakaba
KQ is targeting about 10% of its sales to be attained through the online booking by the end of the year.
KQ officials say the 10% target is a realistic figure for the start.
Wakaba explained that the venture is not designed to wipe out travel agencies from business, but it is a demand driven initiative.
"We invite travel agents to look into the future and come online," said Wakaba.
He said the booking engine, developed by world-renowned e-commerce site developer E-Travel, is extremely secure. However, only international credit cards were usable.
