TourismAfrica2006 which will be held in Geneva in September (10-15), is supported by leading international and Pan-African institutions such as the African Union, the World Tourism Organisation, UNCTAD, UNESCO, the World Bank and the African Development Bank. This international event aims at fostering the development of Africa's tourism industry and promoting destinations in African countries. It is the first initiative solely for African tourism that will gather qualified African and International decision-makers from the public and private sector in a congress, an exhibition and a Business Development Centre.

Within the framework of the strategic forums, September 14th and 15th will be dedicated to the importance of women in Africa's tourism development.

These 'special days' will be placed under the patronage of the World Association of Women Entrepreneurs (FCEM) aiming at strengthening and promoting women entrepreneurs' initiatives throughout the world. Conferences will offer the possibility to acknowledge the increasing importance of their role in world economic activities, specifically at the Pan-African level for tourism development.

Françoise Foning, FCEM president, will open the first 'special day' on September 14th before debates are launched between experts and participants.

FCEM will stress on the need to intensify partnerships, cooperation and communication strategies between the various international women entrepreneurs' networks for the development of tourism on the African continent and the preservation of its heritage.

Debates will convene investors, banks, project holders, NGOs, private companies and African country authorities to discuss the following themes:

  • Business creation
  • Investment
  • Tourist project development
  • Sustainable development on the African continent
  • Heritage preservation

Contact offices will be provided to the World Association of Women Entrepreneurs on September 15th 2006 so that its members and TourismAfrica2006 participants may examine promotion and development opportunities in the tourism sector and forge meaningful partnerships.
