Uganda: 'Kasese Short Of Condoms'

Kasese — THERE'S a shortage of condoms in Kasese, the District Focal Condom Officer, Mr Cyril Kamalha, has said.

Speaking to Daily Monitor on July 23, Kamalha said since August last year, the district had never received any condom consignment from the Health Ministry.

"Whenever we try to inquire from the ministry, they tell us condoms are arriving any time but I have not seen them being delivered," he said.

He said due to condom scarcity, the prices have increased from Shs100 to Shs500 per packet.

While presenting a paper on the HIV/Aids during Bwera SS' Careers Day recently, the district Supervisor for HIV/Aids, counselling and testing, Mr Joshua Bwambale, said the rate at which the HIV virus is spread in the district is at 11 per cent.

The District Health Educator, Mr Gabriel Tibuhwa, said sexually transmitted diseases and teenage pregnancies are also on the increase in the district due to condom shortage.
