Uganda: Buy CHOGM Chopper, MPs Demand

Kampala — MPs on the defence and internal affairs committee demand that the Government purchases a new Police helicopter in preparation for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM).

Mariam Nalunkuuma writes that internal affairs permanent secretary Paul Kagoda had told the committee that the Ministry of Finance had earmarked sh756m to repair the old Police helicopter.

But the committee, while considering the ministry's budget, resolved that parliament would rather support allocation of funds to procure a new helicopter than repairing an old one. The CHOGM meeting is scheduled for November 2007.
