Nairobi — The June shock defeat of the Mogadishu warlords was thought to have heralded a new beginning for Somalia's 15 years search for peace. But before we could uncork the champagne to celebrate the flushing out of the warlords, supported by US, the Union of Islamic Courts (UIC) started behaving badly.
A few young men were shot dead in cinema halls as they were watching the World Cup extravaganza. Buoyed by their success, the courts had reportedly banned watching of soccer and other "evil" films in public.
