Kampala — The theme of the Safe Kids exhibition held at Lugogo from July 17-22 was "safety is a fundamental need and human right for all human beings."

In the past 20 years, there are over one million children in northern Uganda whose future is uncertain because of the Kony war. Over 25,000 children have been abducted since 1987 and many have been used as sex slaves and child soldiers. Though over 70% abducted have been rescued and reunited with their families, many are still in the wilderness. A majority of them have been physiologically, physically, spiritually and socially affected by this war. They have been maimed, mutilated, butchered, killed and forced to participate in some of these atrocities. This violence has left them with psychological trauma. They are nursing bitter memories and living in doubt of their future. Having lived in a dismantled society for over 20 years, they are anxiously waiting for any ray of hope.
