Somalia: Fresh Clash Erupts in Baidoa

Mogadishu — At least one got hurt in Baidoa the provincial capital of Bay region after a firefight took place between militias in charge of guarding the presidential palace and other indigenous militias.

The clashes came after the guards of the presidential palace in Baidoa attempted to confiscate bundles of what is known Khat routinely sold near the palace.

Although the guards said to be met fierce resistance from the local militias but they had managed to escaped with bundles of Khat as they fled toward the palace.

There is no independent source from the palace but a presidential official said they will probe how the incident occurred.

It is the first time that the presidential guards reported to be involved in act of robbery in Baidoa town where the transitional federal government is temporally based.
