Luanda — Visiting Mali parliament speaker, Ibrahim Boubakar Keita, Monday in Luanda, saluted the Angolan head of State for his personal qualities in leading the country's peace and national reconciliation process.
Boubakar Keita, who was addressing a special extraordinary session of the National Assembly (Angolan parliament), also congratulated president Eduardo dos Santos on his 64th birthday (today), recognising his quality as an architect of peace and national reconciliation.
He said it was with "patience, tolerance and spirity of openess that president José Eduardo dos Santos carries out this exemplary process of national reconciliation, from the various peace accords up to the recent signing of the Memorandum of Peace for Cabinda, after many years of fraticide war."
According to Boubakar Keita, it is also with the same spirit of openness and consensus that the Angolan head of State carries out the process of preparation of the next general elections that will impart institutional normality to the country's democratic institutions.
The Malian parliament speaker seized the occasion to send a message of friendship and fraternity from his country's president, Amadou Toumani Touré, to his Angolan counterpart, José Eduardo dos Santos.
He also praised the success the Angolan diplomacy has been scoring, with highlight to the presence of Angola in the vice presidency of the Pan African Parliament, in the United Nations system and in sports.
The Malian parliament speaker who will stay in the country until Saturday, laid a wreath of flowers at the Independence Square, in homage to the first president of Angola, Agostinho Neto, ahead of attending the National Assembly's extraordinary session.
While in Angola, Ibrahim Boubakar Keita is to meet with the leaders of parliamentary groups and hold separate sessions with the ministers of Foreign Affaires, João Bernardo de Miranda, and Planning, Ana Dias Lourenço.
He will on Tuesday meet with the ministers of Territory Administration, Virgílio de Fontes Pereira, and Social Welfare, João Baptista Kussumua, ahead of visits to the Monument to the "4 de Fevereiro" Heroes and to the Kifangondo Historic Site.
Boubakar Keita will travel on Wednesday and Friday to the provinces of Bie and Cabinda, respectively.
On Thursday the visiting parliamentarian will visit the National Electoral Commission (CNE) and meet with the Malian community resident in Angola. A visit to the diamond lapidary plant is included on the agenda.
